Milwaukee, Wis. – Drivers across southern Wisconsin face treacherous travel conditions Sunday morning as dense fog blankets the region, reducing visibility to a quarter mile or less in many locations through 9 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect for a broad swath of southern and eastern Wisconsin, including Milwaukee, Madison, Janesville, and Waukesha. Visibility has dropped below 0.25 miles on major highways such as I-94, I-43, and Highway 151. Fog is expected to gradually lift between 8 and 9 a.m.

The advisory warns that visibility may change rapidly over short distances. Motorists are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra travel time during early Sunday travel. Several DOT cameras show near-zero visibility on stretches of I-94 west of Milwaukee.

This is one of the most widespread summer fog events so far this year, affecting over 20 counties. Areas near lakes and rivers, including parts of Sheboygan and Jefferson counties, are seeing the densest conditions.

Conditions should improve mid-morning, but another advisory may be issued overnight if humidity and calm winds persist.
