Wisconsin Dells, WI – A months-long search for a missing boater came to a solemn conclusion Friday afternoon when authorities recovered a body near Newport Beach.

According to the Wisconsin Dells Police Department, the Lake Delton Police Department and Delton Fire Department responded around 2:13 p.m. to reports of a deceased individual spotted in the water. The recovered body was identified as Francesco Di Filippo, who had been missing since April 3, 2025. Identification was made based on clothing found on the individual.

Di Filippo’s disappearance had prompted an extensive, multi-agency search effort over the past three months. While the discovery was tragic, local officials expressed hope it brings a sense of closure to the Di Filippo/Schultz family.

Chief Nicholas Brinker of the Wisconsin Dells Police Department extended his condolences and publicly thanked the numerous law enforcement agencies, volunteers, and community organizations who assisted in the search. “Your efforts have been greatly appreciated,” Brinker said in the statement.

Additional details are expected to be released in the coming days.
