Wisconsin Dells, WI – A boating incident on the Wisconsin River south of the Kilbourn Dam left two individuals missing Thursday afternoon after their vessel capsized, prompting a multi-agency emergency response.

According to the Wisconsin Dells Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 4:24 p.m. when a boat carrying three individuals overturned. One person managed to swim to shore and was treated by EMS. The other two have not been seen since submerging near the capsizing site.

Multiple rescue boats were deployed to search for the missing boaters, with assistance from Columbia and Sauk County dive teams. High water flow from the Kilbourn Dam and swift currents hindered diving efforts. Authorities utilized sonar-equipped boats, aerial drones, shoreline teams, and underwater drones in an expanded search.

Search operations were suspended overnight due to safety concerns and poor visibility. Officials said search efforts will resume Friday morning with additional resources en route.

The names of the missing individuals have not been released, pending family notification.

Responding agencies included the Kilbourn Fire Department, Dells/Delton EMS, Columbia and Sauk County Sheriff’s Offices, Wisconsin DNR, and several emergency management teams.

Authorities urge the public to avoid the area and remain cautious near high-flow sections of the river.
