Juneau, WI – As Wisconsin’s deer mating season, known as the “rut,” reaches its peak, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office has begun releasing daily updates to track deer activity and related crashes on local roads.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies frequently respond to car-versus-deer collisions during this period, giving them a clear picture of peak activity times. To help keep drivers informed, the office will issue daily “Deer Rut Reports” each morning around 9 a.m., rating deer movement from one to five stars.

In the most recent update, the sheriff’s office reported two car-deer accidents in the past 24 hours, assigning a 2 out of 5 star activity rating for the day. Officials said the highest number of collisions last season occurred on November 8, when 10 accidents were logged in a single day.

Deputies urge drivers to remain alert, especially during early morning and evening hours when deer are most active. For hunters, the reports also serve as an indicator of strong deer movement days for stands and scouting.

Officials emphasize that cautious driving can significantly reduce the risk of collisions and injuries during rut season, which continues through late November.
