Kenosha County, WI – A serious crash investigation on Bassett Road Friday night was disrupted when a nearby resident allegedly interfered with sheriff deputies and a drone operation, according to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Lt. Chase Forster, the crash occurred around 8:39 PM Friday in the 34500 block of Bassett Road, when a 40-year-old woman driving a 2025 Nissan Rogue collided head-on with a large piece of farm equipment being towed by a 43-year-old man operating a Ford F-350. The woman was ejected in the crash and flown by Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, where officials say she remains in critical condition. The truck driver is cooperating with investigators, and alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

Because of the severe impact, the Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) responded to perform a full reconstruction. Deputies deployed a drone to obtain aerial images—standard protocol in major crashes.

During the reconstruction, investigators say a 39-year-old resident, Kevin Berglund, began shining a flashlight toward the drone and deputies. According to the sheriff’s office, Berglund was repeatedly told to stop and return inside his home but allegedly refused and began yelling at deputies. His behavior led deputies to believe he was intoxicated.

When deputies attempted to detain him, officials say Berglund continued advancing toward them and resisted arrest. The distraction forced the drone operator to divert attention, causing the drone to collide with nearby trees and crash.

Berglund was arrested and is facing charges of Resisting and Obstructing, Disorderly Conduct, and Criminal Damage to Property, according to the sheriff’s office. No further details about the drivers are being released at this time.
