Wisconsin – A Cold Weather Advisory has been issued across large portions of northern, central, and eastern Wisconsin, with dangerously low wind chills expected from late Friday night through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, wind chills as low as 30 to 35 degrees below zero are forecast as Arctic air settles over the region. The first advisory begins at midnight Friday night and continues until 10 a.m. CST Saturday for parts of northeast and north-central Wisconsin, including Vilas, Oneida, Florence, Forest, Marinette, and Oconto counties.

A broader Cold Weather Advisory extends from midnight Friday night through 10 a.m. CST Sunday for central, east central, and additional north-central Wisconsin counties, including Brown, Outagamie, Winnebago, Marathon, Shawano, Wood, Portage, Waupaca, Manitowoc, Kewaunee, Calumet, Langlade, Lincoln, and Menominee counties. Cities affected include Green Bay, Appleton, Oshkosh, Wausau, Stevens Point, Wisconsin Rapids, Antigo, Rhinelander, Manitowoc, and Two Rivers.

Forecasters warn that exposed skin can develop frostbite in as little as 10 minutes in the coldest areas, with hypothermia possible during prolonged exposure. Wind chills will be coldest overnight and during early morning hours, when winds combine with low temperatures.

Residents are urged to limit time outdoors, wear layers of warm clothing, and ensure hands, face, and head are covered. Extra caution is advised for outdoor workers, students, and those without adequate heating.

Travelers should prepare for extreme cold if stranded and ensure vehicles are winter-ready. Pet owners are also encouraged to bring animals indoors during the coldest periods.

Conditions are expected to slowly moderate after Sunday morning, but additional cold weather alerts may be issued if Arctic air lingers.
