La Crosse, WI – A dangerous cold front is set to sweep through Wisconsin starting Sunday, bringing subzero temperatures and wind chills as low as -40°F. Snowfall from Saturday will transition into bitter cold, creating hazardous road conditions through the early part of the week.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. Saturday, with an additional 1 to 3 inches of snow expected. By Sunday night, temperatures will plunge, and strong northwest winds will drive wind chills well below zero. Officials urge residents to limit outdoor exposure and prepare for potentially life-threatening cold.

Monday, which marks Washington’s Birthday, will see daytime highs struggle to reach single digits. Wind chills will make it feel even colder, creating frostbite risks in minutes. The extreme cold will persist through Thursday, with morning wind chills ranging from -20°F to -40°F.

Travelers on I-90 and surrounding highways should exercise caution, as snow-covered roads and icy conditions will persist. Authorities recommend checking local road conditions before traveling and keeping an emergency kit in vehicles.

This prolonged Arctic blast will affect much of the Midwest, making it one of the coldest stretches of the season.
