Green Bay, WI – A powerful Arctic air mass will grip Wisconsin early next week, bringing dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills as low as -35°F. The National Weather Service warns of hazardous travel conditions and an increased risk of frostbite for those exposed to the elements for even short periods.
According to the NWS, bitterly cold air will begin moving in Sunday night, with Monday and Tuesday seeing the worst conditions. Wind chills will fall well below zero across the state, making frostbite possible within minutes. High temperatures on Monday—Washington’s Birthday—are expected to remain in the single digits, while overnight lows could dip to -11°F or lower.
Light snow will continue through Saturday, with additional lake-effect snowfall possible through Sunday morning. Gusty northwest winds could lead to blowing and drifting snow, further complicating travel.
Residents should dress in layers, limit time outdoors, and ensure pets have adequate shelter. Drivers should check road conditions before traveling by calling 511. The Arctic air is expected to linger through midweek before slowly moderating.
