Duluth, MN – A powerful winter storm continues to impact northern Wisconsin, bringing heavy snowfall, strong winds, and dangerous travel conditions. The National Weather Service has issued Winter Storm Warnings across multiple counties, with snowfall totals reaching up to 13 inches in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, the storm is expected to persist until 6 p.m. Wednesday. Bayfield, Ashland, and Iron counties are seeing the heaviest snowfall, with up to 13 inches expected in northern Iron County. Douglas, Burnett, and Washburn counties are also experiencing hazardous conditions, with an additional 3 to 5 inches of snow forecasted before noon. Winds gusting up to 45 mph are creating whiteout conditions and the potential for downed tree branches.

Travel remains treacherous, and authorities have closed U.S. Highway 2 from the city of Ashland west to the roundabout at the State Route 13 intersection. Officials warn that driving beyond barricades is illegal and life-threatening.

Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and to carry emergency supplies if travel is unavoidable. For road updates, visit 511wi.gov. Snowfall is expected to taper off by the evening, but road conditions may remain hazardous overnight.
