Phillips, WI — A major ice storm is set to impact parts of northern Wisconsin and northeastern Minnesota through the weekend, creating hazardous travel conditions and potential widespread power outages.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, an Ice Storm Warning remains in effect for Price County, Wisconsin, including Phillips, from 7 p.m. Saturday to 7 p.m. Sunday. Forecasters expect ice accumulations between 0.2 and 0.4 inches, with snow and sleet totals reaching up to two inches. Tree damage and long-lasting power outages are likely.
In neighboring Lake and Cook Counties in Minnesota, including Silver Bay and Two Harbors, a separate Ice Storm Warning remains active until 1 a.m. Saturday. Ice totals in the region could also reach 0.4 inches, particularly in higher elevations near Lax Lake, Finland, and Isabella. Wind gusts may reach 45 mph, further increasing the chance of falling limbs and outages.
Officials urge residents to avoid travel during the storm and prepare for potential emergencies. Extra flashlights, food, and water should be kept in vehicles if travel is necessary. Road conditions can be monitored via 511wi.gov in Wisconsin and 511mn.org in Minnesota.
