Philadelphia, PA – A wintery mix of snow and rain is set to impact the I-95 corridor Sunday, followed by dangerously cold temperatures. Forecasters warn of hazardous travel conditions and freezing temperatures across the region.
According to the National Weather Service, a low-pressure system will bring a chance of snow and rain Sunday into Sunday night. The track of the system remains uncertain, but areas along the I-95 corridor could see accumulating snow, while regions farther south may experience more rain. Snowfall estimates vary, with higher amounts expected in northern and inland areas.
As the precipitation clears, an arctic blast will arrive Monday, plunging temperatures into the single digits across much of Pennsylvania. Wind chills are expected to drop as low as -10°F in urban areas like Philadelphia and as low as -15°F in northern parts of the state. These conditions could lead to frozen pipes, high heating demand, and potential infrastructure issues.
Travelers should prepare for delays along the I-95 corridor and exercise caution on slick and icy roads. Residents are advised to limit outdoor exposure, secure adequate heating, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets.
Looking ahead, Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be mostly sunny but frigid, with highs only reaching the low 20s. Temperatures are expected to gradually moderate by midweek, with highs nearing 30°F by Wednesday.
