Grand Junction, CO – Snow is expected to pile up across the higher elevations of southwest Colorado and southeast Utah through midnight Thursday, creating hazardous travel conditions and prompting a winter weather advisory for the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, the advisory is in effect from 9 p.m. Wednesday through midnight Thursday night. Areas impacted include Colorado’s Southwest San Juan Mountains — covering Silverton, Molas Pass, Rico, and Hesperus — as well as Utah’s La Sal and Abajo Mountains, including Monticello and Spanish Valley.

Forecasters warn of total snowfall accumulations between 4 and 8 inches, with locally higher totals possible at elevations above 7,500 feet. Roads, particularly bridges and mountain passes, are expected to become slick and icy, making the Thursday morning and evening commutes potentially dangerous.

Travelers are urged to slow down and use caution, especially on mountain roads and during periods of heavy snowfall. Chains or snow tires may be required on steep or remote routes.

For updated travel conditions, residents in both states should dial 511 or check with state transportation departments. Snow showers are expected to taper late Thursday night, with clearer skies forecast by Friday morning.
