Binghamton, NY – A powerful cold front is poised to bring light snow and bitterly cold air to New York starting Friday. Snowfall of 2-6 inches is predicted for parts of Central New York, with major highways, including I-81 and I-86, likely to be affected. This system will also usher in subzero wind chills, making travel hazardous through Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service, a clipper system will arrive Friday afternoon, spreading light snow across the region. Snow is expected to taper off Saturday, but temperatures will plummet, with wind chills dropping as low as -10°F by Sunday morning. Areas around Syracuse and Binghamton could experience icy roads and reduced visibility.

Drivers are urged to use caution, particularly on high-elevation roads and during peak snowfall hours Friday night into Saturday. The National Weather Service advises residents to dress in layers and limit time outdoors as frostbite risks rise in these conditions.

By Christmas Eve, another weather system could bring additional light snow, keeping the area blanketed through the holiday. Highs early next week will remain in the teens, with some sunshine returning by Monday.

The extended forecast highlights chilly but clearer skies for the Christmas holiday, with a chance of more light snow Tuesday into Christmas Day.
