Eureka, CA – A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for Southern Trinity from Tuesday afternoon through late Tuesday night. Heavy snow and strong winds are expected to impact the area above 3,500 feet, including portions of Highway 36.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), snow accumulations of 5 to 8 inches are possible, with wind gusts reaching 50 mph. These conditions may create hazardous travel, with reduced visibility and the potential for downed tree branches. The affected areas include east of Forest Glen and Hyampom.
The NWS advises residents to monitor forecasts and avoid travel if possible. If travel is unavoidable, motorists should use extreme caution. Drivers are urged to keep a safe distance from other vehicles, avoid sudden braking, and prepare for icy conditions, especially on hills and turns.
Officials recommend winterizing vehicles and ensuring they are in good condition. Residents should prepare for potential power outages and secure outdoor items susceptible to wind damage.
