Pendleton, OR – A winter storm is bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds to the East Slopes of the Oregon Cascades, prompting a Winter Storm Warning until 11 PM PDT Thursday for elevations above 4,000 feet.

According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, snowfall accumulations of 10 to 15 inches are expected above 4,500 feet, accompanied by wind gusts up to 40 mph. The affected areas include Sunriver, La Pine, Sisters, and Camp Sherman.

Travel in the region is strongly discouraged due to dangerous road conditions. The combination of heavy snowfall and low visibility will create hazardous driving conditions, particularly in higher elevations. Motorists should be prepared with tire chains, blankets, extra clothing, and emergency supplies in case of travel disruptions.

Authorities urge residents to stay indoors if possible and report any power outages to their local utility providers. Additionally, fallen power lines and tree limbs may pose a risk due to the weight of accumulating snow.

Those who must travel should use extreme caution, follow road advisories, and remain alert for potential closures or delays. The storm is expected to taper off late Thursday night, improving conditions heading into the weekend.
