Helena, MT – A major winter storm continues to affect various parts of Montana, with up to 18 inches of snow expected in the state’s mountainous regions. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple Winter Storm Warnings that will last through Wednesday, April 2, 2025, impacting travel and safety in the affected areas.

According to the NWS, heavy snow is expected in the Little Belt and Highwood Mountains, including areas like Neihart, Monarch, and Kings Hill Pass, where up to 18 inches of snow could accumulate. The Big Belt, Bridger, and Castle Mountains are also under a warning, with snow totals ranging from 8 to 16 inches and possible gusts of up to 35 mph.

The storm is expected to cause hazardous driving conditions, especially in mountainous areas and passes. Officials urge travelers to prepare for difficult travel conditions and to carry emergency supplies such as food, water, and flashlights in their vehicles. Tire chains may be required in some areas.

In addition to travel disruptions, the storm could impact livestock, particularly newborn animals, with the NWS advising farmers and ranchers to monitor conditions closely.

The NWS reminds residents to stay updated on road conditions by visiting the Montana Department of Transportation’s website or calling 511.
