Detroit, MI – Southeast Michigan residents are waking up to hazardous road conditions as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Thursday. Heavy snow and strong winds are creating challenging travel conditions across the region.
According to the National Weather Service, localized snowfall totals have reached up to five inches in some areas since midnight. Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw, and Wayne counties are under the advisory. Gusty winds up to 35 mph are reducing visibility, with near whiteout conditions reported in lake effect snow bands.
Commuters should expect slippery roads, particularly on bridges and overpasses. The hazardous conditions are expected to impact Thursday morning travel, with untreated roads remaining snow-covered.
Authorities urge drivers to reduce speed and allow extra time for travel. The Michigan Department of Transportation advises checking the Michigan Drive Map for real-time road conditions.
The snowfall is expected to taper off by mid-morning, though lingering icy spots could persist. Residents are encouraged to use caution and stay updated on weather developments.
