Riverton, WY – A winter weather advisory is in effect across parts of Wyoming today, with snow and gusty winds making travel conditions difficult.
The advisory, which started this morning, remains in effect until 6 PM MDT today. The National Weather Service warns of snow accumulations of up to 8 inches in the Bighorn Mountains, with gusty winds reaching 40 mph in some areas. Additionally, snow accumulation of 2 to 3 inches is forecast along the Interstate 90 corridor between Buffalo and the Sheridan County line, while areas further east may receive up to 2 inches.
Travel may be hazardous, particularly on high mountain passes such as Powder River and Granite Passes, which could see challenging conditions, including heavy snow and poor visibility. The Wednesday morning and evening commutes are expected to be impacted.
According to the National Weather Service, drivers should slow down, keep extra distance from vehicles, and use caution on snow-covered roads. For more details on road conditions, travelers can check the Wyoming Department of Transportation’s website at wyoroad.info.
