Caribou, ME – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for northern Maine, with mixed precipitation expected to cause travel disruptions through Sunday morning.

The advisory, in effect from 5 PM Saturday to 6 AM Sunday, covers the Central Highlands, Far Northern, and North Woods regions, including cities such as Madawaska, Millinocket, and Greenville.

According to the National Weather Service, snow and sleet accumulations could reach up to three inches, with ice forming up to a tenth of an inch. In higher terrain areas, localized ice buildup could reach two-tenths of an inch, increasing the risk of slippery roads and poor visibility.

Travelers are advised to be cautious, particularly after dark, as hazardous conditions are likely. The National Weather Service recommends checking for real-time road conditions at newengland511.org to stay informed.

This winter weather is typical for northern Maine, where rapid changes in conditions are common during the spring season.
