Portland, OR — Travel through the Cascades will remain treacherous through Friday night as snow continues to impact higher elevations across northern Oregon and southern Washington.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 p.m. PDT Friday for areas above 4,000 feet in the North Oregon Cascades, Cascades of Marion, Linn, and Lane Counties, and the South Washington Cascades.

Up to 10 additional inches of snow are expected, especially above 5,500 feet. Locations such as Government Camp, Santiam Pass, Willamette Pass, and Mt. St. Helens could see the heaviest accumulations after 11 a.m. Friday.

Officials warn that roads, bridges, and mountain passes are likely to become slick and hazardous, particularly in shaded or elevated areas. Motorists traveling along U.S. Route 26, Oregon Route 58, and other mountain highways should use extreme caution.

Travelers are urged to carry a winter emergency kit, including tire chains, blankets, food, and water. Pedestrians in these regions should watch for slick walking surfaces.
