BLACKSBURG, VA – The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for portions of southwest Virginia, southern West Virginia, and northwest North Carolina from 1 PM Wednesday through 10 AM Thursday.

  • Snow & Blowing Snow: 1–3 inches expected, especially above 2,000 feet.
  • Strong Winds: Gusts up to 40 mph will create blowing snow and reduced visibility at times.
  • Rain Changing to Snow: Precipitation will begin as rain this afternoon, turning to snow as temperatures fall through the evening.

  • Starts: Early Wednesday afternoon (rain initially).
  • Heaviest Snow: Wednesday evening into early Thursday morning.
  • Ends: Late Thursday morning as temperatures rise slightly.
