Caribou, ME – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. Sunday as steady snowfall continues across much of Central and DownEast Maine, creating potentially hazardous travel conditions.
The National Weather Service forecasts total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches in affected areas, which include Bangor, Houlton, and Ellsworth. Snow is expected to persist through late morning, gradually transitioning to scattered snow showers after 1 p.m. Wind speeds of 6 to 9 mph may contribute to reduced visibility, especially on untreated roads.
Sunday night will see a clearing trend as skies turn mostly clear and temperatures drop to around 10°F. Winds will shift northwest at 7 mph, with wind chills approaching zero, according to the NWS. Travelers are urged to use caution on snow-covered roads and allow extra time for commutes.
Looking ahead, a mix of snow, rain, and freezing rain is anticipated midweek, beginning late Tuesday night into Wednesday. These conditions could bring additional travel challenges, with highs reaching the low 40s by Wednesday afternoon.
