Snow is sweeping across Colorado’s western and central regions, bringing significant snowfall and unusually cold temperatures. Starting Tuesday and intensifying through Wednesday, snow showers will impact areas north of I-70 and the Highway 40 corridor. Motorists should prepare for slick roads and possible delays along these routes, especially near mountain passes where conditions could be treacherous.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, scattered rain and snow showers are likely Tuesday, with a high near 47°F before temperatures drop overnight to 28°F. Snow showers may mix with rain in lower elevations, but central and southern mountains could see consistent snowfall through Thursday. Areas such as Steamboat Springs, Eagle, and Gunnison are expected to receive two to four inches of snow, while localized squalls along Highway 40 may lead to rapid accumulations, reducing visibility for drivers.

On Wednesday, there’s a 20% chance of lingering snow showers in the morning, followed by partly sunny skies and a high of 43°F. By nightfall, temperatures will plummet to around 23°F, adding to the risk of icy patches on roads. Travelers should check conditions before venturing out and carry emergency kits, as gusty winds up to 20 mph could worsen driving hazards.

Looking ahead, the Grand Junction area will see mostly sunny skies on Thursday and Friday, with highs around 47°F, but temperatures will remain colder than average throughout the week. Residents are urged to monitor weather updates as snowfall patterns shift, ensuring they stay safe in these early winter conditions.
