Fairbanks, AK – Drivers traveling through Denali Borough should prepare for slick and snowy conditions starting Thursday night as the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory.

According to the NWS Fairbanks office, the advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. Thursday, September 11, through 7 a.m. Saturday, September 13. Forecasters expect 2 to 4 inches of snow across both the northern and southern portions of Denali Borough, including the Parks Highway from milepost 202 to 288, Anderson, Healy, Cantwell, Carlo Creek, Kantishna, and Denali National Park.

Officials warn that roads, bridges, and overpasses will likely become slick and hazardous, especially during the overnight and early morning hours when snow will accumulate more easily. The hazardous conditions could impact both the Friday morning and evening commutes.

The NWS noted that while snow may initially melt on contact during the daytime hours, accumulation is more likely overnight Thursday and Friday. Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra time, and check Alaska road conditions by calling 511 before traveling.

This marks one of the first significant early-season snowfall events for the region, and drivers heading into higher elevations of Denali National Park or along the Parks Highway should remain alert for changing conditions.
