Amarillo, TX – The Texas Panhandle is experiencing a wintry blast today, but warmer spring temperatures are right around the corner. Snow continues through Saturday night, with accumulations between 1 and 5 inches. By Sunday, the weather shifts as sunshine returns, setting the stage for a much warmer week.
According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until midnight for portions of the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles. Travelers should expect slippery roads, particularly on I-40 and US-287, as snow and gusty winds persist. By Sunday morning, road conditions will improve as temperatures rise.
Sunday’s forecast calls for sunny skies and a high near 56°F, with lighter winds making for a much more comfortable day. Monday brings an even bigger shift, with highs soaring to the low 70s—a stark contrast to this weekend’s snow. By midweek, Amarillo will see highs near 74°F, with dry and breezy conditions.
Looking ahead, the five-day forecast shows clear skies and mild temperatures continuing through Thursday, with daytime highs staying in the 60s and 70s. Nighttime lows will remain in the 40s, keeping conditions mild. Spring weather has officially arrived in Texas, just in time for Daylight Saving Time, which begins early Sunday morning.
