Duluth, MN – A late-season winter storm is expected to bring dangerous travel conditions to northeastern Minnesota starting late Thursday night, with snow, ice, and gusty winds forecasted to impact daily life through Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for Carlton, Cook, Lake, and St. Louis counties from 3 a.m. Friday through 7 a.m. Saturday. Cities under the watch include Duluth, Hibbing, Grand Marais, Silver Bay, and Two Harbors, along with the Fond du Lac Band, Grand Portage Reservation, and Bois Forte Band tribal lands.

Forecasters say the system could produce up to four inches of snow, combined with ice accumulations reaching one-quarter of an inch. Wind gusts may peak near 35 mph, adding to hazardous driving conditions. The Friday morning and evening commutes are expected to be especially impacted.

The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) in eastern and central zones is also within the affected area.

Residents should monitor local forecasts and prepare for slick roads and possible power outages. Limit travel during peak hours and keep emergency supplies on hand.

The storm marks another round of active weather for the region as March closes, underscoring Minnesota’s lingering winter hazards.
