Eureka, CA – A winter storm is set to bring heavy snowfall and strong winds to Trinity County, making travel hazardous through midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, a Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Tuesday evening through Wednesday afternoon for elevations above 3,500 feet. Snowfall totals between 5 and 10 inches are possible, with wind gusts reaching up to 40 mph.

The storm will primarily impact highways 3 and 36, where travel conditions could become dangerous due to accumulating snow and reduced visibility. Snow levels are expected to start at around 4,500 feet on Tuesday evening before dropping to 3,000 feet by late Wednesday afternoon.

Officials urge residents and travelers to monitor weather updates and take necessary precautions. Power outages are possible, and downed trees could further complicate road conditions. Those in affected areas should avoid unnecessary travel and prepare for potential disruptions.

Residents are advised to keep emergency kits stocked, including food, water, and warm clothing. If travel is unavoidable, drivers should carry chains, check road conditions before departure, and allow extra travel time.
