Charleston, WV – The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Southeast Webster, Northwest Pocahontas, and Southeast Randolph Counties, in effect from Wednesday morning through Thursday afternoon (December 10–11, 2025).

Forecasters are calling for heavy snow and high winds, with 4 to 7 inches of accumulation expected and locally higher totals possible, especially in elevated areas such as Snowshoe Mountain and Harman. Wind gusts up to 50 mph will likely lead to blowing and drifting snow, reducing visibility to near zero at times.

Travel will become hazardous, particularly along U.S. Routes 219 and 250 and on mountain passes above 3,000 feet. The most significant impacts are expected from Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning, coinciding with both commutes.

The strong winds may also down tree branches and cause isolated power outages in exposed, high-elevation areas.

Residents and visitors should prepare for rapidly changing conditions, avoid unnecessary mountain travel, and stay tuned for forecast updates as a Winter Storm Warning may be issued.
