Baton Rouge, LA – The National Weather Service warns of severe winter weather impacting Louisiana from Monday through Thursday. Snow accumulations exceeding one inch, ice, subfreezing temperatures, and dangerous wind chills are anticipated.

Louisiana State Police (LSP) urges drivers to stay informed about weather and road conditions before traveling. Bridges and overpasses may become treacherous during these conditions. If conditions worsen, officials recommend avoiding travel until roads improve. LSP will work with the Department of Transportation and local law enforcement to address hazards.

For road closures, visit 511la.org or use the Louisiana 511 app. Troopers will patrol roadways to assist stranded motorists and monitor conditions.

Drivers should avoid unnecessary travel, slow down, and maintain safe distances. Avoid cruise control on icy roads, anticipate stops, and brake gently. Watch for black ice, especially on bridges and shaded areas.

Driving around barricades is illegal and carries penalties of up to $500 or 30 days in jail. Report hazardous situations to LSP at *LSP (*577) or call 911.

Monitor Louisiana State Police’s social media for updates on roadway conditions and advisories.
