Charleston, WV – A significant winter storm is set to blanket portions of West Virginia with heavy snow beginning early Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm will drop between 5 and 8 inches of snow, with wind gusts reaching up to 35 mph. The Winter Storm Warning will take effect at 1 a.m. Sunday and continue until 8 a.m. Monday, impacting areas including Buckhannon, Summersville, Snowshoe, and Elkins.

Hazardous travel conditions are expected throughout Sunday and into the Monday morning commute. Residents should anticipate slippery roads and reduced visibility due to blowing snow. Taylor County is also under the warning, where 4 to 6 inches of snow are expected.

Officials urge motorists to avoid unnecessary travel. If travel is essential, drivers should carry emergency supplies, including flashlights, food, and water.
