Charleston, WV – A powerful winter storm is set to bring heavy snow and dangerous winds to parts of West Virginia starting Sunday afternoon and continuing through Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 1 p.m. Sunday until 10 a.m. Monday for Northwest Pocahontas, Southeast Randolph, and Southeast Webster counties, including Snowshoe and Harman. Snow accumulations could reach up to 11 inches, with wind gusts as high as 55 mph.

Whiteout conditions are expected, making travel dangerous and potentially life-threatening. The storm may cause power outages due to snow-laden tree limbs and strong winds. Motorists should expect treacherous roads and reduced visibility, especially during the Monday morning commute.

Residents are advised to avoid travel if possible. If travel is necessary, pack emergency supplies such as food, water, and a flashlight. For the latest road conditions, call 511 or visit the state’s online traffic portal. More updates are available on the National Weather Service’s website and social media pages.
