Indianapolis, IN – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for much of central Indiana from 7 AM today through 10 AM Sunday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Indianapolis. Heavy snow combined with gusty winds is expected to create hazardous travel conditions across the region.
Forecast snowfall totals range from 4 to 7 inches, with the heaviest amounts possible along the I-65 and I-69 corridors, including Indianapolis, Carmel, Noblesville, Anderson, Lafayette, Kokomo, Crawfordsville, Lebanon, and Muncie. Winds could gust up to 35 mph, producing areas of blowing and drifting snow that further reduce visibility.
Snow will begin early this morning and continue throughout the day, becoming moderate to heavy at times. Roads will quickly become snow-covered, and travel may become very difficult, especially during the afternoon and evening hours.
Drivers are urged to slow down, allow for additional braking distance, and avoid unnecessary travel if possible. The NWS emphasizes the importance of carrying emergency supplies—including food, water, and a flashlight—in case vehicles become stranded.
As temperatures fall Sunday morning, any melted snow may refreeze, leading to slick spots on untreated pavement, sidewalks, and parking lots. Even after snowfall ends, hazardous travel could persist into mid-morning Sunday.
The latest road conditions can be accessed by calling 511, and residents are encouraged to monitor updates from officials as the storm evolves.
