Green Bay, WI – A major winter storm is expected to bring up to 5 inches of snow and dangerous ice accumulations to parts of northern Wisconsin, including Green Bay, through 7 p.m. Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Vilas County from 7 p.m. Saturday through 7 p.m. Sunday. Forecasters anticipate snow and sleet totals between 2 and 5 inches, along with a significant layer of ice—ranging from one-quarter to nearly half an inch.
The ice accumulation could lead to widespread power outages and tree damage, with utility lines and limbs expected to become heavily burdened. Travel across the region, including Green Bay, may become nearly impossible during peak hours of the storm, particularly overnight Saturday into Sunday morning.
Officials urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare emergency kits with flashlights, non-perishable food, and water in case of extended power loss. Road conditions can be monitored by dialing 511 or visiting Wisconsin’s 511 travel service website.
This storm marks one of the more impactful late-season systems for the region, with conditions expected to improve gradually Sunday night into Monday morning.
