Fort Wayne, IN – The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana has issued Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories as moderate to heavy lake effect snow begins impacting the region Sunday evening and continues into Monday night.

According to the US National Weather Service, a rain-snow mix will transition to steady lake effect snow late Sunday, with multiple bursts of heavy snowfall expected through Monday evening. Snow accumulations could reach 5–11 inches in warning areas, and 2–6 inches elsewhere under advisories.

Forecasters warn that travel will be difficult, especially during the Monday morning and evening commutes. Roads will quickly become snow-covered and slick, with sudden drops in visibility under the heaviest snow bands. Temperatures will fall into the 20s overnight, adding to hazardous road conditions.

Residents in counties near La Porte, St. Joseph, Elkhart, and Lake are urged to use extreme caution, avoid unnecessary travel, and monitor local updates. The storm is expected to taper off by late Monday night.
