Hurley, WI – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Iron County through 6 a.m. Thursday as heavy lake-effect snow and high winds are expected to create hazardous conditions.
The National Weather Service reports that northern Iron County could see an additional 4 to 8 inches of snow, while southern areas may accumulate 2 to 5 inches. Wind gusts of up to 45 mph will result in widespread blowing snow, significantly reducing visibility and potentially making travel treacherous.
According to the advisory, impacts include difficult travel conditions and the possibility of falling tree branches due to strong winds. The warning extends to the Tribal Lands of the northwestern area of the Lac du Flambeau Band.
Residents are urged to avoid non-essential travel and ensure they have emergency supplies, including flashlights, food, and water, if travel is unavoidable. For updated road conditions, travelers can call 511 or visit 511wi.gov.
This storm is expected to taper off after the warning expires early Thursday morning.
