Trinity County, CA – A winter storm warning remains in effect for Trinity County, including areas such as South Fork Mountain and Scott Mountain, until 5 PM PDT Tuesday. The National Weather Service issued the warning late Monday night, forecasting heavy snow accumulations of 8 to 12 inches at elevations above 3,000 feet, with some locations, including Scott Mountain Pass, seeing up to 2 feet of snow.

According to the National Weather Service, the snowstorm is expected to create hazardous travel conditions, particularly on roads, bridges, and overpasses. Motorists should expect slippery and difficult driving conditions, especially in the higher mountain passes along Hwy 36, Hwy 299, and Hwy 3.

Travelers are urged to delay any non-essential trips, as road conditions may become treacherous. If travel is unavoidable, the National Weather Service recommends carrying extra supplies, including flashlights, food, and water, and driving with extreme caution. Tire chains may be necessary on certain mountain roads, and drivers should be prepared for sudden changes in visibility and road conditions.

For the latest road conditions, drivers can call 511 for updates.
