Reno, NV – A winter storm warning remains in effect for several areas in northern California and western Nevada, as heavy snow and strong winds continue to impact the region. The warning will be in place until 11 PM PDT Tuesday, affecting the Greater Lake Tahoe area, as well as Lassen, Eastern Plumas, and Eastern Sierra counties.

According to the National Weather Service, snow accumulations of up to 16 inches are possible in areas above 6,500 feet, with some areas expecting up to 2 feet of snow. Below 6,500 feet, an additional 5 to 10 inches of snow is expected. In addition to heavy snow, ridge winds will gust up to 80 mph, with winds around Lake Tahoe reaching speeds of up to 40 mph, creating dangerous conditions for travelers. Waves around the lake could be 2 to 3 feet high.

Travel may be nearly impossible in some areas, particularly along U.S. Highway 395 and higher elevations. The hazardous conditions are expected to disrupt morning and evening commutes. Drivers are advised to carry extra supplies, including food, water, and a flashlight, in case of emergency.

Residents and travelers are urged to stay informed on the latest weather conditions and prepare for potential power outages or road closures.
