Portland, OR – A winter storm warning remains in effect for Portland, Vancouver, and surrounding areas until Friday morning, bringing snow, ice, and strong winds that could impact travel and power lines.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Portland, total snow accumulations are expected to range from one to four inches, with up to one-tenth of an inch of ice. The strongest winds, gusting up to 50 mph, will impact the Columbia River Gorge. The warning covers the Portland Metro, Vancouver Metro, the North Oregon Coast Range, and the Columbia River Gorge.
Officials warn that roads, especially bridges and overpasses, will become slick and hazardous. Ice accumulation on trees and power lines may lead to power outages.
Residents are urged to postpone travel if possible. If driving is necessary, slowing down and allowing extra time is advised. Those using generators should keep them outdoors and away from windows and vents.
The storm is expected to taper off by late Friday, but lingering icy conditions may persist into the weekend.
