Snowshoe, WV – A winter storm warning remains in effect for Northwest Pocahontas and Southeast Randolph counties from 5 a.m. Sunday to 1 a.m. Monday. Residents are urged to prepare for hazardous conditions, including icy roads and strong winds.
The National Weather Service predicts up to two inches of snow and ice accumulations reaching a quarter-inch. Winds could gust up to 35 mph, raising concerns about power outages caused by falling tree limbs and icy conditions. Bridges and overpasses are expected to become especially slick and dangerous.
According to the National Weather Service, motorists should carry an emergency kit, including a flashlight, food, and water. Travelers can check the latest road conditions by dialing 511 or visiting weather.gov/rlx.
Local officials emphasize staying indoors during the storm, if possible, and caution against unnecessary travel. With power outages likely, residents should charge essential devices and prepare backup heating options.
