Medford, OR – A major winter storm continues to impact Southern Oregon and Northern California, bringing heavy snow, strong winds, and dangerous travel conditions through Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Medford, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 a.m. PST Friday for higher elevations across Siskiyou County, Klamath County, Lake County, and parts of Jackson and Josephine Counties. Snowfall totals could range from 5 to 12 inches, with the highest amounts in mountainous areas. Winds may gust up to 50 mph, creating whiteout conditions.

Lower elevations, including Medford, Grants Pass, and Yreka, remain under a Winter Weather Advisory, with snow accumulations of up to 3 inches possible. Roads, especially Interstate 5, Highway 97, and mountain passes like Black Butte and Cedar Pass, will likely become slick and hazardous.

Drivers should expect delays and possible road closures. Authorities urge travelers to carry emergency supplies, check road conditions at tripcheck.com (Oregon) or quickmap.dot.ca.gov (California), and allow extra travel time.

The storm is expected to taper off by Friday morning, but lingering icy conditions may continue to impact travel.
