Las Vegas, NV – A powerful winter storm is set to bring heavy snowfall and strong winds to the Eastern Sierra, White Mountains, and Spring Mountains, with impacts lasting through Friday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Las Vegas, the storm will begin late Wednesday night and could dump 2 to 4 feet of snow at elevations above 7,000 feet in the Eastern Sierra and White Mountains. The Spring Mountains and Sheep Range may see 12 to 24 inches, with locally higher amounts at peak elevations. Wind gusts could reach 60 mph along the Sierra crest and 50 mph in the Spring Mountains, increasing the risk of tree damage and whiteout conditions.

Travel across affected areas, including Whitney Portal, Red Rock Canyon, and Mount Charleston, could be difficult or impossible due to heavy snow and blowing winds. Officials advise carrying emergency supplies such as food, water, and flashlights when traveling.

The storm warning remains in effect from 10 p.m. Wednesday until 4 p.m. Friday. Travelers can check road conditions by calling 511 in Nevada or 1-800-427-7623 in California.
