La Crosse, WI – The National Weather Service in La Crosse warns that a winter storm will move across the region Saturday afternoon through early Sunday, bringing heavy snow and hazardous travel conditions mainly along and south of Interstate 90.

Snow will begin in western Wisconsin and northeast Iowa this afternoon, becoming widespread by evening. The heaviest snowfall is expected overnight, with 3 to 7 inches possible, especially in northeast Iowa and parts of southwestern Wisconsin. Areas farther north toward Interstate 94 will see lighter totals, generally 1 to 3 inches.

The peak impacts are expected between 7 PM and 3 AM, when snowfall rates may reach 1 inch per hour, reducing visibility and making roads slick. Conditions should improve after sunrise Sunday as snow tapers off from west to east.

The NWS advises travelers to monitor forecasts, adjust plans if possible, and use extreme caution if driving tonight. Even small shifts in the storm track could change where the heaviest snow falls.
