Indiana and Kentucky – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect early Friday across a wide portion of south central Indiana and central to north central Kentucky, with accumulating snow creating hazardous travel conditions during the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, storm total snowfall of 3 to 5 inches is expected across the warned area. The warning remains in effect until 10 a.m. EST this morning, with snow continuing during peak travel hours.
In Indiana, affected counties include Orange, Washington, Scott, Jefferson, Harrison, Floyd, Clark, and Crawford. In Kentucky, the warning covers Jefferson, Oldham, Trimble, Henry, Shelby, Franklin, Scott, Harrison, Spencer, Woodford, Fayette, Bourbon, Nicholas, Jessamine, Clark, and Anderson counties.
Cities within the warning area include Louisville, Jeffersonville, New Albany, Lexington, Frankfort, Georgetown, Shelbyville, Versailles, Winchester, Corydon, Paoli, Bedford, and Lawrenceburg, among others.
Forecasters warn that slippery road conditions are likely, especially on bridges, overpasses, and untreated secondary roads. The timing of the snowfall is expected to significantly impact the Friday morning commute, with reduced traction and slower travel speeds across urban and rural routes.
Officials urge drivers to use caution, reduce speed, and allow extra travel time, or delay travel until conditions improve later this morning as snow tapers off and road crews continue treatment.
Motorists who must travel are advised to keep emergency supplies in their vehicles, including a flashlight, food, and water. Road conditions can be checked at 511in.org for Indiana and goky.ky.gov for Kentucky.
