Indianapolis, IN – Central Indiana is bracing for a winter storm set to begin Sunday night, bringing significant snow and icy roads. Forecasters warn of hazardous driving conditions through Monday, particularly on major routes such as I-65, I-69, and I-70.
According to the National Weather Service, the storm will develop late Sunday, continuing into Monday night. While snow totals are still uncertain, some areas could see more than six inches of accumulation. In addition to heavy snow, freezing rain or sleet may affect portions of the region, further complicating travel.
Drivers are advised to prepare for delays and avoid unnecessary travel during the storm. If driving is essential, ensure vehicles are equipped with emergency supplies, including blankets, flashlights, and extra water. Crews are expected to work throughout the event, but roadways may remain slippery and visibility reduced during peak snowfall.
The storm will also usher in much colder air, with temperatures dropping into the teens and wind chills in the single digits early next week. Residents should monitor local forecasts and plan accordingly as conditions may change.
