Sacramento, CA – The National Weather Service in Sacramento is tracking an incoming storm system set to bring widespread rain and significant mountain snow to Northern California beginning Wednesday, November 12, and continuing through Friday, November 14.

Forecasters say rain will spread across much of the Central Valley and foothills by Wednesday afternoon, with totals ranging from 1 to 3 inches in many areas. Heavier rainfall is likely across the northern Sierra foothills and coastal ranges, where localized ponding of water and slick roads could cause longer-than-normal commutes.

In the higher elevations, snow levels will start near 8,000 feet Wednesday, dropping to 5,000–6,000 feet Thursday and as low as 4,000 feet by early Friday. The Sierra Nevada could receive 1 to 2 feet of snow, with up to 3 feet possible in the highest passes. The NWS warns of chain controls, travel delays, and hazardous mountain driving, especially along I-80, Highway 50, and U.S. 395.

Confidence in exact timing and totals remains moderate, but conditions are expected to ease by late Friday as the system exits the region.
