Hagerstown, MD – A winter weather advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday for parts of Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia, with ice and snow expected to create hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, portions of north-central and western Maryland, eastern West Virginia, and central and western Virginia will see mixed precipitation, including up to two-tenths of an inch of ice accumulation in higher elevations. Some areas may see a brief period of snow or sleet before transitioning to freezing rain by the afternoon.
Roads, bridges, and overpasses are expected to become slick and hazardous. Motorists are advised to drive with caution and check local road conditions by calling 511.
A second winter weather advisory is set to take effect from 4 p.m. Sunday to 4 p.m. Monday for Garrett County, MD, and parts of western West Virginia. Snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches and wind gusts up to 60 mph could create near-blizzard conditions, reducing visibility to a quarter-mile or less at times.
