Pendleton, OR – A winter storm warning remains in effect for the Northern Blue Mountains of Oregon and the East Slopes of the Oregon Cascades until 11 p.m. PDT Sunday, bringing heavy snowfall and hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, the affected areas, including Meacham, Tollgate, Ski Bluewood Resort, La Pine, Sisters, Camp Sherman, and Sunriver, could see additional snow accumulations of 2 to 8 inches. Snow levels above 4,500 feet will experience the heaviest accumulation.
Travel in these regions is highly discouraged as snow-covered roads and strong winds could lead to low visibility, slippery conditions, and the risk of downed power lines. Officials warn that the weight of the snow on tree limbs may cause sporadic power outages.
Motorists who must travel are urged to use extreme caution, leave extra space between vehicles, and carry a winter storm kit. Essential supplies should include tire chains, booster cables, a flashlight, a shovel, blankets, extra clothing, water, and a first aid kit.
Residents should report any power outages to their utility provider and avoid downed power lines. Conditions are expected to improve after 11 p.m. as the storm system moves out of the region.
