Winter Storm Hits Albany: Freezing Rain and Snow Expected Throughout Friday

Albany, NY – A winter storm is bringing freezing rain and snow to Albany and surrounding areas today. Roads and sidewalks could become hazardous as temperatures drop.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Albany, freezing rain will develop between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. south of I-90. Areas north of I-90 will see freezing rain between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The precipitation will transition to plain rain before changing to snow later this afternoon and evening.

NWS Albany issued a Winter Weather Advisory through this afternoon. Ice accumulation is expected, with untreated roads and sidewalks becoming slick. The advisory covers Albany, Poughkeepsie, Binghamton, and other areas. Snowfall is also predicted later today, with several inches possible by Saturday.

Residents should prepare for hazardous travel conditions. Officials urge drivers to reduce speed and exercise caution on untreated surfaces.
