Chicago, IL – A winter storm is set to bring heavy snowfall to northern Illinois and northwest Indiana on Wednesday, potentially impacting travel and daily routines.
According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Wednesday morning through late Wednesday night. Forecasters warn that total snow accumulations of 6 inches or more are possible across affected areas, including Chicago, Rockford, Joliet, and Valparaiso, Indiana.
Snowfall rates could reach an inch per hour, particularly during the Wednesday afternoon and evening commute, leading to hazardous road conditions. Drivers are advised to prepare for delays and reduced visibility.
The storm is expected to impact Cook, DuPage, Lake, Kane, Will, and McHenry counties, among others. With temperatures below freezing, untreated roads and sidewalks could become slick.
Officials recommend residents stay updated on weather conditions and allow extra travel time. Snowplows will be deployed, but accumulation rates may make roads difficult to clear quickly.
Stay tuned for updates as the storm approaches.
