Indianapolis, IN – A winter storm is set to impact Indiana this weekend, bringing freezing rain, snow, and hazardous road conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, precipitation will begin late Friday and intensify overnight. Freezing rain is expected across northern central Indiana, with up to a tenth of an inch of ice accumulation possible by Saturday morning. Slick roads, especially on bridges and overpasses, will create treacherous driving conditions along I-74 and surrounding areas.
By Saturday morning, freezing rain will transition to heavy rain, with some areas experiencing snow showers Saturday night into Sunday. Temperatures will drop significantly by Sunday night, with wind chills near -15°F.
Motorists should prepare for icy roads and reduced visibility throughout the weekend. If travel is necessary, drivers should allow extra time and check road conditions before heading out.
Next week, bitter cold temperatures will persist, with additional chances of snow by Tuesday night. Residents should stay informed on weather updates and take precautions against the extreme cold.
